Meet the Donks

These Donks weren't true babies, at least as ages go. Instead of being big or tall, they were just small, you know? Each one is a little different, and that's exactly what makes the pack work. In Book 1, they follow the Secret Map together all the way to Paradise. Each Donk's own book tells how they found the pack.

The cast lineup of Donks

Queen Michelle

“Queen of all, Michelle not tall.”

Generous heartReads the map

Michelle may be small, but her heart is the biggest in Drearyland. She is the warm, generous queen of the den past Stinknose Bend, and the treasure she loves most isn't gold. It's friends: one-of-a-kind Donks with good, true hearts. When she lifts her tiny seeing lens, she looks past muddy hooves and messy manes to the goodness inside. So when the pack meets a lost stranger in the dark, Michelle is the first to say, “No Donk should be alone.”

Clumsy Cloppy

“Donk is sloppy, trips on many things.”

Hard workerLucky tumbles

Cloppy is Michelle's partner and the hardest-working Donk in the den. He is also a little wobbly on his hooves. But every time Cloppy takes a tumble, something wonderful turns up: a clover rock, a hidden pass, a secret stair. Cloppy shows kids that being clumsy is okay. What counts is dusting yourself off, giving it your all, and finishing what you start.

Harry Hairy

“Always merry, has a gorgeous mane.”

Gorgeous maneLeads the way

Harry has the most magnificent mane in Drearyland, and he is always first to charge down the trail. Even when brambles turn that mane into a tangled mess, Harry laughs and stays merry. He is learning that the bravest thing isn't looking perfect. It's feeling good in your own skin, and asking a friend for help when you're stuck.

Little Noey

“Wants to fly, he wishes he had wings.”

Big dreamerFirst across the creek

Noey is small, clever, and always cooking up his next big idea. He wants to do everything, and he wants to do it right now. Most of all, he dreams of flying. When the pack reaches a deep creek, Noey builds up a head of steam, grabs a vine, and soars. He is learning that big dreams come true one step at a time, and that it pays to trust the climb.

Billy Belly

“Kinda smelly, always up for lunch.”

Always hungryFound the map

Billy's nose can sniff out a snack from a mile away, and it led him straight to the old, tattered map that started the whole adventure. The first thing he did? He ran home to share it. Billy loves food more than almost anything (yes, he nibbles moss in the middle of a quest), and he is learning the tastiest lesson of all: sharing is caring.

Burro Blue

“Who's only two, the strongest of the bunch.”

Strongest of the bunchPower kick

Blue is the youngest Donk and the strongest by far. He has a big kick, big feelings, and not much patience for waiting. When things don't go his way, a storm cloud can roll in fast. But when a wall of ice blocks the path, Blue backs up, measures his kick, and BOOM: the way is open. Like lots of little ones, he is learning that a deep breath first helps his strength go right where it's needed.

Dusty Doo

“I've searched clean through, both near and far and wide.”

WandererJoins the pack

Dusty is a shaggy, soft-hearted wanderer who has always been drawn to shiny things and faraway places, sure the grass is greener over the next hill. His wandering carried him far and wide, all the way to a dark mountain path where he waited, alone, for a very long time. When the pack comes shuffling through the dark on its way to Paradise, Dusty joins the journey and finds out that the best treasure was never far away: friends who make room for one more.
